Tooth-colored fillings

Fillings

Traditionally, teeth have been repaired with amalgam (silver) fillings or gold restorations. Some people don’t want metal in their mouth for either health reasons or for aesthetic reasons. Teeth can now be restored in a way that provides a more natural-looking appearance: Tooth-colored Fillings.

At Barotz Dental, we feel we enhance the lives of the people we touch by providing the most up-to-date, high quality dental care in a comfortable, personalized manner. A beautiful, healthy smile can make a difference in your confidence and self esteem. We emphasize dentistry in a personalized and comfortable adult setting.

There are two types of tooth-colored fillings: Composites or Porcelain inlays.

Composite Fillings: The simplest form of a tooth-colored filling is made up of a composite quartz resin and mixed with a light sensitive “bonding” agent. They can be used in many teeth, and they come in a variety of shades. Dr. Barotz will make sure that your composite fillings match the color of your own teeth perfectly.

Porcelain Inlays: These types of tooth-colored fillings are usually placed in back teeth when aesthetics is of utmost concern. They are usually fabricated in a laboratory and then bonded into position in our office.

Advantages over Amalgam Fillings

Aesthetics is a big advantage over silver amalgam fillings. Additionally, as silver does not stick to teeth, healthy tooth structure is usually removed to keep a silver filling in place. Composites permit your dentist to remove only the decayed area of your tooth. Unlike silver fillings, composite bonding expands just like your teeth and are much less likely to cause cracks in your tooth. Composites bond directly to the tooth providing support. This is why at Barotz Dental we use only composite fillings and porcelain inlays to repair your decayed teeth.

Dental Bonding

Bonding is a process where a composite resin that matches your teeth (similar to tooth enamel) is applied to the tooth’s surface. Sculpted for an ideal look, hardened, and then polished. This procedure usually takes one visit.

When Is Bonding Used?

Bonding is ideal for restoring teeth that are slightly chipped, filling very small cavities, or for closing very small spaces between teeth.

If you are concerned about your smile, come in for a Free Consultation with Dr. Barotz. We can show you your options, and help you decide if dental bonding is the right solution for your situation.
