FROM THE DESK OF

CHARLES S. BAROTZ, D.D.S.

All Cleaning Appointments Are Not the Same As one of my patients, you should be aware that we are not in network with any insurance companies. We absolutely could not provide the quality dentistry and the attention to detail under the conditions and reimbursements that dental insurance companies would lock us into.

That said, we have had many patients ask whether they could utilize their insurance for cleaning appointments at another office. There are many things that we do that are rarely done at insurance-based practices.

1. We schedule more time. Most insurance practices allow 40 minutes for their cleaning appointment. At Barotz Dental we have been allowing 1 hour for these appointments and will be extending these appointments to 1 hour and 10 minutes beginning early next year.

2. In order to catch gum disease at its earliest onset or to maintain the gains that have been made by periodontal therapy (like LANAP), we always do a thorough periodontal exam taking measurements around all teeth in 6 places and provide immediate antibiotic therapy for pockets when indicated.

3. In order to find oral cancer at the earliest onset, we routinely screen our patients with a cancer detection light called a Veloscope which will cause cancerous lesions to show up before they are visible to the naked eye. We have already saved a patient’s life with the Veloscope by finding a cancerous lesion when it was no larger than a BB (2mm).

4. To keep you comfortable during these appointments, we have water heaters in all our treatment areas including our hygiene rooms.

5. As part of staying ahead of the curve in prevention, we will be introducing periodontal laser disinfection beginning early next year. This procedure, which is painless, will reduce the amount of bacteria in the periodontal pocket. Equally important, this will reduce the amount of bacteria that gets into the bloodstream (bacteriemia) during routine dental cleanings.

6. We do offer a 5-year warranty on the condition that you have your routine care done at our office.

In the end, it is all in the details. We remain committed to helping prevent disease and not waiting for problems to occur which are often far more costly than finding them and treating them at the earliest possible time. At Barotz Dental, we are committed to treating your entire person and not just “cleaning your teeth.” So, in the ultimate end, “a cleaning appointment is not just a cleaning appointment”

Patient Feedback

IF YOU HAVE ENJOYED YOUR EXPERIENCE, PLEASE SHARE THAT ONLINE AT GOOGLE, FACEBOOK, YELP, WEBMD AND OTHER SITES!

Dr. Barotz is by far not only the best dentist in the country, but also the most amazing medical practitioner I have ever met. I came into his office for the first time on a Friday morning after a horrible freak accident that completely knocked out my front tooth. His whole team treated me as if I was family. He was able to temporarily bond my tooth after placing an implant and give me my smile back THAT SAME DAY. As someone who is absolutely terrified of EVERYTHING dental, thank you for doing this WITH me and not TO me. There are not enough words to say “thank you” for the grace, compassion, and gentle care that I have received from Dr. Barotz and his team.

IMPORTANT Note About Hygiene Appointments!

We have reserved time especially for you, and we respectfully ask that you keep your appointments as scheduled and confirmed. Please know that failure to give us 48 hours’ notice to reschedule will result in a CANCELLATION CHARGE without exception. Dentally speaking, of course!

  1. The average American spends 38.5 total days brushing their teeth during their lifetime.

  2. Nearly 25% of American adults have no teeth.

  3. Tooth decay is the second most common disease, second only to the common cold.

  4. On average, 3 million teeth are lost each year while playing sports.

  5. The tooth is the only part of the human body that can’t heal itself.

  6. Tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the human body.

  7. Like fingerprints—and snowflakes—everyone’s tongue print is unique.

  8. The lifespan of a taste bud is about 10 days.

  9. The average human produces 100,000 gallons of saliva during their lifetime—enough to fill two swimming pools.

  10. There are more bacteria in the human mouth than there are people on Earth.

Is Cosmetic Dentistry Right for You Now?

Your smile is one of your most noticeable features. Many people feel embarrassed about their teeth and choose to hide their smiles—but you deserve better. Dr. Barotz can help you achieve a healthy, beautiful smile.

Behind Those Dull Teeth

Dullness and yellowing of the teeth happen gradually, and you may not even notice the cumulative effect. There are several reasons why teeth lose their brightness over time, starting with the natural wearing down of enamel. With each cup of coffee or other staining food or beverage, teeth can become increasingly discolored. Before you know it, the pearly whites you once had may look noticeably dull.

Whether filling in gaps, lengthening worn-down teeth, covering chips and cracks, or simply whitening your smile as a long-term solution, Dr. Barotz can address these concerns quickly using porcelain veneers.

Porcelain veneers offer many benefits, including:

  • Instant smile enhancement that can dramatically improve your appearance in just a few days

  • Durable, long-lasting results designed to withstand daily wear

  • A natural appearance, custom-designed to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth

  • Stain resistance against coffee, tea, wine, and tobacco

  • Minimal tooth alteration, preserving more of your natural tooth structure

  • Improved self-confidence in both social and professional settings

As you begin 2024, why not take this opportunity to show off a brighter, more confident smile in the year ahead?

TO CHEW OR NOT TO CHEW That is the Question!

Let’s face it – in today’s fastpaced world, there’s not much that we slow down for. Food is certainly no exception. Honestly, we all need to slow down when it comes to mealtime. But how? Chewing! Chewing slows you down and gives your body a chance to extract all the nutrients it can from your food. Complex carbohydrates like whole grains and vegetables need a particular enzyme in your saliva to be absorbed completely. Without this enzyme, the other enzymes in your stomach and small intestine are compromised making your digestive track less efficient. By chewing well (20- 30 times a mouthful….yikes!), your body absorbs the nutrients more effectively. No, you don’t have to count to 30 every time you take a bite, but chewing longer has its benefits. So, give your food an extra chew. Or two. Or thirty.

Top 3 Oral Hygiene Tweaks Right NOW!

  • Don’t replace flossing with hydro flossing or using a waterpik. A lot of people don’t like to floss and so they turn to hydro flossing which does help, but it doesn’t replace traditional flossing.

  • Brush correctly. There are right and wrong ways to brush your teeth. If you brush your teeth without angling your toothbrush, you’re not getting into the areas at the gumline to prevent bacterial buildup and gum disease.

  • Get fluoride treatment at least once per year! Yes, even adults should have fluoride treatments at routine dental appointments! It’s an insurance policy for your mouth, which is aging and becoming more vulnerable.
